August 23, 2012 – Accident, Fatal – Update
The Town of Poughkeepsie Police Traffic Enforcement Unit reports investigating a fatal one-car motor vehicle accident that occurred at approximately 5:43 p.m. on August 21, 2012. The accident occurred on Cathy Road. A 2003 Honda Odyssey, operated by a 60-year-old female from Poughkeepsie, N.Y., was traveling southbound on Cathy Road when a 30-year-old male passenger from Poughkeepsie, N.Y, seated in the front passenger seat, jumped from the moving vehicle and onto the roadway. The passenger was transported by a Arlington Fire District ambulance to Saint Francis Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Police ask anyone who may have witnessed the accident to call the Town of Poughkeepsie Police at (845) 485-3666.
Chief Thomas Mauro reports that the preliminary investigation concerning this accident has been concluded. The investigation disclosed that Amol Modi, age 30, was in the front passenger seat of a 2003 Honda Odyssey being driven by his mother. They were in the process of returning home when Amol Modi suddenly opened the passenger front door and deliberately stepped out of the vehicle while it was moving.
The cause of death listed by the Dutchess County Medical Examiner is ‘blunt force trauma to the head’. Chief Mauro stated ‘there was no prior warning or indication that Mr. Modi was going to harm himself. The investigation concluded that this was a sudden and unanticipated act.’
The Police Department will not make any further comments concerning any personal prior medical history of the deceased.

August 7, 2012 – Making Graffiti
On July 24, 2012 at approximately 10:58 p.m. Town of Poughkeepsie Police Officers responded to a complaint of a suspicious person at a local business after closing. Upon the officers arrival, two (2) individuals were interviewed and detained due to recent graffiti discovered on a nearby business.
Both subjects were charged on the above date, July 24, 2012, with criminal mischief, 3rd degree, and making graffiti. Both subjects were released on an appearance ticket.
Further investigation revealed that the two (2) subjects were responsible for at least six (6) other incidents in the Town of Poughkeepsie between March, 2012 and July, 2012.
