January 31, 2013 – Accident, Personal Injury
The Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department reports investigating a car/pedestrian personal injury accident that occurred at approximately 6:47 a.m. on January 31, 2013.
The accident occurred on Route 9D near the Shoppes at South Hills exit roadway. A 2000 Honda Civic was being operated by a 42 year old Town of Poughkeepsie resident. The male operator was proceeding south on Route 9D when his vehicle struck the pedestrian.
The pedestrian has been identified as Keama C. Lewis, male, age 36, of Wappingers Falls, N.Y. The preliminary investigation indicates that the pedestrian was walking south near the southbound lane of Route 9D at the time of the accident. The investigation is continuing.
Town of Poughkeepsie Police were assisted at the scene by the New Hamburg Fire Department and Mobile Life Ambulance service personnel. Keama Lewis sustained severe but non-life threatening injuries and was transported to Saint Francis Hospital. The driver of the vehicle was not injured.

January 29, 2013 – STOP DWI PATROLS
The Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department, in conjunction with other Dutchess County and Statewide Law Enforcement Agencies, will be conducting STOP DWI patrols for the Super Bowl weekend. Super Bowl weekend has been targeted as a statewide crackdown weekend to enhance the visibility of the STOP DWI program and remove intoxicated and impaired drivers from the roadways.
The Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department will conduct STOP DWI patrols on Saturday, February 2, 2013, from 12:00 a.m. to 5:00 a.m. and on Sunday, February 3, 2013, from 9:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m.
January 19, 2013 – Fatal Automobile Accident
The Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department is investigating a fatal two car motor vehicle accident that occurred on Vassar Road near Silver Lane at approximately 8:14 p.m. on January 19, 2013.
A preliminary investigation has disclosed that a 2008 Jeep Liberty, being operated by a 22 year old male from Wappingers Falls, N.Y., was traveling southbound on Vassar Road. A 2001 Nissan Sentra, operated by Stephanie Brennan, age 29, from Wappingers Falls, N.Y., was traveling northbound on Vassar Road. Brennan crossed over the double yellow lines into the southbound lane of Vassar Road in an attempt to pass another vehicle, subsequently colliding head on into the southbound Jeep Liberty. Stephanie Brennan was pronounced deceased at the scene of the accident by the Dutchess County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The operator of the Jeep Liberty and his 23 year old female passenger sustained survivable injuries and were transported to St. Francis Hospital. The investigation indicated that the three (3) victims involved in the accident were all wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision. A portion of Vassar Road was closed for approximately seven (7) hours during the investigation.
The Town of Poughkeepsie Police were assisted at the scene by the Arlington Fire District, the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office and the Dutchess County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department Traffic Enforcement Unit is continuing the investigation and is asking anyone who witnessed the accident to call them at 845-485-3680.
Janyary 9, 2013 – NIXLE Community Notification System
Police Chief Thomas Mauro of the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department has announced that the department has initiated a new internet based service for citizens to access emergency notifications or other important community alerts using wireless technology.
The department will publish important messages through the Nixle Community Information Service. Nixle will then deliver this information to you instantly via text, email and/or web message. Notifications can also be accessed online at Nixle’s website at www.nixle.com
