February 27, 2013 – Larceny from Motor Vehicles
The Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department is investigating a recent pattern of thefts from parked motor vehicles. These thefts are occurring in residential areas, particularly during overnight hours.
Most recently, the southern part of the Town has been affected, including Sheafe Road, Cottom Hill Road, Delavergne Avenue, Carmen Drive, Mainetti Drive and Gertrude Place.
The common thread in all the crimes is that the vehicles were left unlocked and coins and/or other valuables were in plain sight.
Vehicle owners are strongly advised to follow basic safety rules to discourage thefts, such as not leaving valuables in your vehicle(s) and always locking vehicle doors.
Persons should also keep a list of serial numbers or identifying marks on their valuables. Should the police recover any stolen property, your property can more easily be matched to what is recovered.
Anyone who observes suspicious persons or vehicles should immediately call the Town of Poughkeepsie Police at 845-485-3666. Tips may also be left by calling the police department or submitting information at dev.townpolice.net
