November 20, 2012 – Larcenies from Vehicles
The Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department had been investigating recent reports of larcenies from motor vehicles. The larcenies were occurring primarily overnight and throughout the Town. The subject(s) would walk through neighborhoods checking vehicles parked on the street or in driveways to see if they were unlocked. When they found unlocked vehicles, the subject(s) would steal whatever valuables were contained therein. The majority of the valuables stolen consisted of U.S. currency, portable GPS units and portable digital music players, ie: Ipods and MP3 players.
This investigation resulted in the arrest of two (2) subjects that had committed numerous larcenies from vehicles. The arrests by the Town of Poughkeepsie Police took place on Wednesday, November 14, 2012.
The Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department would like to remind citizens to keep their vehicles locked and not to keep valuables in the vehicle while unattended.

Joshua Miles was released on an appearance ticket. Defendant is to appear in Town Justice Court on December 3, 2012.
Benjamin Prinzivalli was arraigned before Judge Paul Sullivan. Defendant was remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail/$20,000 bond, and directed to return to Town Justice Court on November 20, 2012.
November 15, 2012 – Burglary to Residence
On Thursday, November 15, 2012 at 8:00 a.m., the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department responded to a call of a suspicious male on Violet Avenue. It was reported that the suspect was looking into parked vehicles and was seen walking to the rear of a residence on Violet Avenue.
Officers from the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department subsequently located a subject in the basement of a residence on Violet Avenue. Further investigation disclosed that the suspect was in possession of stolen property that he had obtained from breaking into a vehicle on Creek Road in the Town of Poughkeepsie earlier in the day.
The suspect, Julio Ramos, was arrested by the officers at the scene.
It was later learned that Ramos was on parole for Robbery, 3rd degree, and had been released from prison on November 9, 2012. New York State Parole was notified of the arrest.

The defendant was arraigned before Town Justice Paul Sullivan and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $20,000 cash/$40,000 bond bail. He is scheduled to appear on town court on 11/20/12.
November 14, 2012 – Narcotics Arrests
On November 11, 2012 at approximately 8:00 p.m. the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department received a call from a victim reporting he had just been robbed of cash in the vicinity of Montgomery Street in the City of Poughkeepsie. The caller indicated he was now in his car following the men responsible for the robbery who were traveling in two (2) separate vans entering the Town of Poughkeepsie.
The victim had followed the vehicles onto Spackenkill Road in the Town of Poughkeepsie. Town of Poughkeepsie Police Officers intercepted the two suspect vehicles, a black and a grey Chrysler van, on Spackenkill Road at the Red Oaks Mill intersection.
A subsequent investigation disclosed that the 49 year old victim, a City of Poughkeepsie resident, had been robbed of approximately $20,000 in cash. Searches of the two (2) suspect vans resulted in the recovery of $20,000 in cash and six (6) ounces of heroin.
A total of five (5) suspects were located in the two vans. They were taken into custody at the scene with the assistance of the New York State Police, City of Poughkeepsie Police Department and the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office. No weapons were recovered and there were no injuries. The reported robbery is being investigated by the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department. The Dutchess County Drug Task Force is assisting in the ongoing investigation.

Allyn Martinez, Hans Suncar and Victor Terrero were remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $100,000 cash or $300,000 bond and directed to reappear at Town Justice Court on November 13, 2012 at 4:00 p.m.
Luis Encarnacion was remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $250.00 cash or $500.00 bond and directed to reappear at Town Justice Court on November 13, 2012 at 4:00 p.m.
Daniel Heredia was issued an appearrance ticket directing him to appear in Town Justice Court on November 26, 2012 at 3:00 p.m.
Holiday Safety -
The Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department reminds the community to be safe this holiday season. The holiday season is a time when lives become hectic, we become complacent and as a result are vulnerable to crime. Consider shopping with a friend or family member so you’re not alone and you can watch over each other.
The holidays are a good time to update or create a home inventory. Take photos or videos of items, and list descriptions and serial numbers. If your home is burglarized, having a detailed inventory can help identify and claim stolen items. Also, write down any account numbers and phone numbers to contact banks and lenders should you need to cancel any financial accounts if you lose or have your wallet stolen.
Whenever you leave your home, make sure your doors and windows are secure, alarm systems are on and packages out of view to deter a potential burglar. If you’re traveling out of town, keep your lights on timers, have your driveway cleared of snow and have neighbors keep an eye on your home and retrieve your mail. Criminals sometimes pose as couriers delivering gifts or illegitimate people or organizations going door to door for charitable donations. Ask for identification and their Peddler’s Permit issued by the Town Clerk. If you’re not comfortable or satisfied with their credentials, don’t donate or purchase from them.
Holiday shoppers make perfect targets for vehicle break-ins. Caution is advised when choosing to leave valuables or shopping bags in your vehicle. All electronic devices such as GPS systems, radar detectors and other musical devices are tempting for criminals looking to break-in to your vehicle. Plan ahead and leave them at home and if you absolutely must leave any valuables in your car, place them in the trunk and always lock the doors. Anything of value, even loose change, is inviting to a criminal. When possible, shop during daylight hours and park in well-lit, highly trafficked areas of a parking lot.
While shopping, stay alert to your surroundings, don’t leave your purse unattended if you must bring it with you. Consider carrying a small wallet and keeping it in your front pocket and avoid carrying a large amount of cash. It is not recommended to have your debit or credit card PIN numbers written down in your wallet. If you realize your card has been lost or stolen, immediately cancel your card and contact the police. Don’t
overload yourself with packages and beware of strangers approaching you or around you, this may be a method of distracting you with the intention of taking your belongings.
On-line shopping can offer convenience but also can come with risks. Remember to save your order numbers and tracking numbers should a package be lost or stolen. It is also recommended that credit card information not be stored on any site, in case their site is hacked, putting your information at risk.
When you’re arriving or leaving the mall or store, be aware of who is congregated around the entrances and parking lots. Use caution when approaching your car, take time to look inside, around and even underneath your vehicle. This is not the time to let your guard down. Keep your guard up until you are locked inside your vehicle and on your way.
Report activity that seems suspicious to store security or the police. Whether you observe a suspicious vehicle in your neighborhood or suspicious person looking into vehicles in a parking lot, contact the police. Remember to obtain information such as the person’s physical and clothing descriptions, vehicle descriptions with the license plate and the direction of travel for either. November 1, 2012: Accident, Pedestrian Or Bike
The Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department responded to a car / pedestrian crash that occurred on Creek Road by Fitchett Way at approximately 9:10 P.M. on Thursday, November 1, 2012. A 2002 Honda Civic, operated by Jordan R. Lamoree, age 22, residing at 177 Union Street, Apartment # 3, Poughkeepsie, New York, was traveling southbound on Creek Road approaching the intersection with Fitchett Way and the Dutchess County Rail Trail entrance. Three pedestrians were walking southbound on the West side of the roadway. Upon approaching the pedestrians the vehicle operator looked away from the roadway, and struck a pedestrian. Warren Wilson, age 23, residing at 134 Innis Avenue, Apartment A-15, Poughkeepsie, New York, was the pedestrian struck by the Honda Civic. At the time of the investigation Wilson suffered non life threatening injuries, consisting of broken bones, and bruised internal organs. Another pedestrian, Nicholas Jackson, age 19, residing at 35 Fitchett Street, Poughkeepsie, New York, complained of injuries also. A third pedestrian reported no injuries from the crash. Both Wilson and Jackson were transported to St. Francis Hospital. Jackson was treated and released from St. Francis Hospital, while Wilson was admitted to the hospital. The vehicle operator and his passenger received no injuries in the crash. This crash is under investigation.
