October 30, 2012 – Larcenies From Motor Vehicles
The Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department is investigating a recent pattern of thefts from parked motor vehicles. These thefts are occurring throughout the Town of Poughkeepsie and are occurring in residential areas during the overnight hours.
Most recently, the southern Arlington area has been affected, including Lagrange Avenue, Collegeview Avenue, Ziegler Avenue, Park Avenue, Carriage Hill and Boardman Road.
The common thread in all the crimes is that the vehicle owner left valuables in plain sight inside the vehicle. In addition, almost all the vehicles were left unlocked.
Vehicle owners are strongly advised to follow basic safety rules such as not leaving valuables in your vehicle and always locking your vehicle.
These are proven deterrents to vehicle thefts, as the criminal will avoid a vehicle that is locked or a vehicle that has no valuables visible inside.
Persons should also keep a list of serial #’s or identifying marks on their valuables. Should the police recover any stolen property, your property can more easily be matched to what is recovered.

October 24, 2012 – Residents in the Town of Poughkeepsie are reminded of upcoming seasonal related ordinances in the town.
Town Ordinance 195-30a, prohibits vehicles from being parked on any street, road or highway in the Town of Poughkeepsie or a parking lot maintained by the town, between the hours of 12:00 A.M. –8 A.M. from November 1st-April 1st.
Town Ordinance 174-2, reminds owners or occupants of homes to remove snow
and ice from sidewalks within four hours after any snowfall occurring between 6:00 A.M.-6:00 P.M. or within six hours thereafter.
Town Ordinance 174-5, reminds owner or occupant to remove snow from around a fire hydrant for a distance of two feet and between the sidewalk or the curb to keep the fire hydrant free from snow throughout the winter.

October 23, 2012 – UPDATE: Suspicious Vehicle
On October 22, 2012 at approximately 5:30 p.m., the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department received a phone call from a homeowner on Autumn Drive reporting that the suspicious vehicle (see description in previous press release of 10/17/12 below) was in the local area again. Responding police units located the suspicious vehicle and interviewed the driver. Chief Thomas Mauro stated ‘the investigation revealed that it was in fact the same vehicle reported on October 17, 2012. It was being operated by an area resident practicing his driving skills in the neighborhood prior to taking a road test. No criminal conduct or criminal intent was involved’.
October 16, 2012 : Suspicious Vehicle
On October 16, 2012 the Town of Poughkeepsie received a complaint of a suspicious vehicle in the area of Autumn Drive which is located in the Vassar Oaks development in the southern part of the town. At approximately 4:15-4:30pm a teenage female student reports getting off the bus and being followed by a suspicious male in a car while she walked down the street.
The suspicious person is described as a black male, bald, clean shaven with an approximate age being in his early to mid-thirties. He was driving what appeared to be a newer model silver or gray 4 door sedan, possibly a Chevrolet.
Residents are always encouraged to notify the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Dept. if they feel there is a suspcious vehicle or person in their neighborhood. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the Town Police at 845-485-3666 or leave a tip at TownPolice.net.
