The Town of Poughkeepsie Police Chief, Thomas Mauro, reminds residents of two programs the department offers. The department continues to offer the Senior Citizen Emergency Watch Program to senior citizens residing in the Town. The program is designed to assist seniors that do not have family or friends checking on them during emergencies.
This program allows the police department to document in a computer database the names of seniors, where they reside, and important contact information. In addition, information concerning potential special needs during an unusual inclement weather event or natural disaster will be on file. In the event of an emergency, police officers will be assigned to make home visits as manpower and circumstances permit, to see if the senior citizen is in need of any special assistance. The program is free and completely voluntary.
The department continues to utilize a service to publish messages instantly via text, e-mail and web message, to keep town residents and those traveling within the Town, informed about neighborhood-level public safety and community information. The service is secure, reliable and easy for citizens to use. You can register for free at www.nixle.com
