September 17, 2013 – Robbery – Walgreen’s Pharmacy

On September 17, 2013 at approximately 8:40 a.m., the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department received a telephone report of a robbery occurring at Walgreens, 625 Dutchess Turmnpike, in the Town of Poughkeepsie.

A preliminary investigation at the scene disclosed that a female suspect had entered the store, walked up to the pharmacy counter where she demanded prescription medications from the attending pharmacist. The suspect indicated that she had a handgun but did not display it during the robbery. She demanded Oxycodone, Percocet and hypodermic syringes. The pharmacist complied and the suspect left the store.

Responding Town of Poughkeepsie Police Officers located the suspect approximately 15 minutes later exiting a wooded area adjacent to the Arlington Middle School at the rear of the Dutchess Center where the store is located. In addition, a second suspect, a male, was detained by officers at the scene as possibly being involved in the robbery. A follow-up investigation indicated that this male suspect was an accomplice in the robbery. He was present in the store and assisted the female by acting as a ‘lookout’.

A Town of Poughkeepsie K9 Team searched the wooded area and located some of the stolen drugs and the handgun that had been carried by the suspect. The recovered handgun proved to be a replica BB gun. The suspect was found in possession of additional drugs that were stolen during the robbery.

There were no reported injuries in this robbery and the suspect was taken into custody without incident. During the robbery investigation, the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department was in immediate communication with officials at the Arlington Middle School and police patrols were assigned after the robbery as a protective perimeter near the school.
