Lifesaving Awards Presented To P.O. Dawn Abbagliato & Lieutenant Douglas Hauseman
On June 14, 2009, Lieutenant Douglas Hauseman and P.O. Dawn Abbagliato assisted the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department and the New York State Police at the scene of a suicidal subject threatening to jump off the Mid Hudson Bridge. Both officers, using their Crisis Negotiation Training and experience, successfully secured this disturbed person from physical harm. The on scene negotiations lasted for more than four (4) hours.
The actions of Lieutenant Hauseman and P.O. Abbagliato reflect most positively upon the reputation of the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department and the community we serve.
Lifesaving Award Presented To P.O. Robert Taylor
On February 21, 2010, P.O. Robert Taylor responded to the scene of an unconscious male not breathing and with no pulse. P.O. Taylor arrived at the scene with the Arlington Fire Department. P.O. Taylor took over CPR that was already in progress by the victim’s wife and after continuing with CPR the victim regained a pulse and began breathing on his own. The victim was subsequently transported to Vassar Brothers Medical Center.
The actions of P.O. Taylor reflect most positively upon the reputation of the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department and the community we serve.
Lifesaving Award Presented To P.O. Patrick Barry
On November 27, 2009, P.O. Patrick Barry responded to the scene of an unconscious male. He quickly began CPR and continued until the arrival of New Hamburg Fire Department personnel and paramedics. By administering CPR the subject was able to regain consciousness and a steady pulse. He was transported to Vassar Brother Medical Center.
The actions of P.O. Barry reflect most positively upon the reputation of the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department and the community we serve.
Civilian Award Presented To Javon Parris
On December 9, 2009, Mr. Parris witnessed a female Marist College student in distress on Route 9 near the college. The female victim had been confronted by a male subject threatening her with a knife and a gun. The suspect attempted to take the victim to a darkened area adjacent to the highway.
Javon Parris, witnessing this event and without regard to his own personal safety, confronted the suspect causing the suspect to flee. Due to his direct actions in this emergency, Javon Parris assisted police patrols in locating and identifying the suspect who was subsequently charged with Attempted Kidnapping in the 2nd degree.
Javon Parris’ actions, taken without regard to his own safety, exemplify the definition of a selfless hero and good citizen.
Civilian Award Presented To Felipe R. Medina
On December 4, 2009, Felipe Medina took immediate action with disregard for his own personal safety by physically detaining the fleeing suspect from a shoplifting incident. He continued to restrain the suspect until the arrival of police patrols.
It should be noted that Felipe Medina took these actions without being asked by anyone to assist nor was he obligated in anyway to intervene.
He is recognized for his courageous actions and the assistance he provided to the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department and our greater community.
